I love being an independent financial adviser. There can be few jobs as personally rewarding and satisfying. When a family makes the decision to trust you with their financial affairs it is both a great responsibility and a real privilege. Even after more than twenty years, I still feel an enormous sense of pride and fulfilment in helping others achieve their goals.
Although I am a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society, my core skill is building longstanding relationships based on trust. I often advise two or three generations of my clients’ extended families.
Rain or shine, I can often be found on our allotment. I’m a ‘late bloomer’ and this has come as a surprise to me as I have never really thought of myself as having the gardening ‘gene’.
I have a longstanding involvement with the ‘Young Enterprise’ programme in schools, including being Chair of the Derbyshire region. I believe all children should leave school with a basic understanding of finance and business.
